Local employer Anker Stuy ‘rows against the tide’ and wins prestigious award NBCC SME Award


Anker Stuy Coatings UK Ltd., based in Peterborough, recently won a prestigious award from the Netherlands British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC), which was presented during the Chamber’s yearly Awards event, taking place this year took virtually on 3 June, 2021.

Originally a Dutch company dating back to 1898, Anker Stuy Verven received the NBCC’s SME (Small and Medium Enterprise) Award in recognition of their activities through their UK subsidiary, defeating the odds against a backdrop of the effects of the pandemic and Brexit. The award was presented by Edo Offerhaus, Managing Director NLinBusiness and Hans de Rooij, Audit and Assurance Partner, BDO to Emile Stuy, co-owner of Anker Stuy Verven.

Anker Stuy’s sustainable paints product line has the potential to contribute to both to climate goals and economic growth at a local, and national, level and is “a fantastic example of British-Dutch entrepreneurship and collaboration”. While some businesses may have chosen this time to leave the UK, Anker Stuy 'rowed against the tide' and invested further by setting up a new office in Peterbourgh, UK, in 2019, in part to optimise on the growth in the construction market.

Two years down the line, the company has grown from strength to strength, starting from two and now with six employees. NBCC, in an event attended by ambassadors, ministers and CEO’s from both countries, commended Anker Stuy for their “true spirit of entrepreneurship” and “as a proactive business leader” for developing the trading relationship in both the UK and the Netherlands during the midst of a crisis.
